A semi truck overturned on an interstate on-ramp on Saturday and some say a design flaw on the ramp is to blame.
According to ABC-22, the driver was heading east on Interstate 70 in Butler Township, Ohio, and overturned as he took the ramp towards Interstate 75 north
Sgt. Frank Simmons of the Ohio State Patrol said “His load shifted in his trailer. Physics took over. The trailer went first and the tractor followed the trailer.”
The driver was trapped inside the cab for hours, but is lucky to be alive.
“The steering wheel pinned his torso, his legs were pinned up underneath the dashboard, and his left arm was pinned behind the seat,” Sgt. Simmons added.
The driver was rushed to Miami Valley hospital, and suffered several broken bones.
Some truck drivers have spoken out about the dangers of this specific ramp, including local trucking company owner Richard Schaub.
“They’re going to keep having accidents here because of the design of this ramp,” said Schaub, “The truck really has to be really, really slow as he’s crossing over 75 here to have it speed down. If he gets it down to this point, and he hasn’t got down to 45 MPH he’s toast.”
Schaub suggests adding more warnings signs approaching the curve, in order to warn drivers.
