A Canadian truck driver was rescued after falling down a steep embankment and getting trapped in his rig for two days.

The accident happened on Highway 3 in Hope, British Columbia, Canada on February 28th. The driver was reported missing when he did not show up for his delivery.

Two days later, on Thursday, March 2nd, rescue crews discovered his rig at the bottom of an embankment. Police say he took a tight turn too fast and tumbled more than 100 feet.

The driver survived the crash, but was pinned inside the overturned truck with the steering wheel pressed against his abdomen.

It took three rescue teams more than six hours to free the trapped driver. According to CBC.ca, a mechanic was called to dismantle the truck’s transmission, search teams cut around other parts of the the truck’s cab, and a towing company used several wreckers to hold the truck up so it wouldn’t slide further down the embankment.

“Everybody’s working hard here together. There must be 25 people working to help free the driver,” said Jamie Davis of Jamie Davis Towing Company. “He’s very badly trapped in the truck,” he added.

The driver was reportedly awake during the extraction process. Paramedics say the driver is in “good spirits” and is expected to recover. His name and the extent of his injuries have not been released.
