A truck driver swerved into a ditch in Shelburn, Indiana, in order to avoid a direct collision with a pickup truck that pulled into its path.
It happened on Tuesday afternoon, at the intersection of US 41 and Boradway Street.
According to police reports, after being cut off, the semi steered hard right in an attempt to avoid the pickup, but ended up clipping it, sending both vehicles into a ditch. However, police credited the truckers reaction for preventing a much more serious outcome.
“Had the semi driver not reacted so quickly the crash could have ended in a tragedy,” the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
The driver of the pickup, Kathryn Nelson, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The semi truck driver, Scott McMasters, was not hurt in the crash.
