A truck driver tragically lost his life this week after a freak accident in Tacoma, Washington.
It happened on Interstate 5, at 72nd street, around 11:30 am on Thursday.
According to local K5 News, the crash began when the driver of the semi truck was unable to slow down in time for traffic and rear-ended a box truck on the northbound lanes. The impact caused the 18-wheeler to strike the jersey barrier that separated the northbound and southbound lanes.
After striking the barrier, the truck’s container separated from the chassis and smashed into the truck’s cab. The truck driver, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
The box truck that was struck by the semi was pushed into two other vehicles, however no one else was seriously injured in the chain-reaction crash.
A stretch of the highway was closed for nearly 7 hours for crews to clear the scene.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
