A truck driver is facing serious charges after an accident on Interstate 95. The incident occurred on August 25th near Hampden, Maine.
According to Truro Daily News, the collision occurred when 49-year-old truck driver, Dario Dosen, attempted to make a U-Turn using an “authorized vehicle” turnout on Interstate 95.
A motorist traveling behind the tractor trailer tried to maneuver around the turning rig, but lost control and crashed into a guardrail. The driver, 33-year-old Briand Richardson, was ejected from his SUV and seriously injured in the crash.
Police say the truck driver, who was in the country on a work visa, thought he was allowed to use the turnaround lane. After checking his logbooks, police also determined that he exceeded the federally mandated hours-of-service driving limit by 3.5 hours. He was arrested and charged with aggravated driving to endanger. However, the charges may be upgraded to manslaughter if Richardson doesn’t survive.
Dosen’s employer, Seafood Express, stated that he will be released from duty.
The truck driver’s bail was set at $10,000. But the bail comes with certain conditions—he would also have to hand over his passport and not leave state lines. His court date is scheduled for October 4th.
