On Wednesday, police arrested a truck driver at a weigh station in Greenwich, Connecticut. He was reportedly in violation for various weapons.
The 37-year-old Florida driver, Carlos Echevarria, works for Jalliam Transportation. Around 6:30 p.m, he arrived at the weigh station and stopped for a routine credential check performed by police.
That’s when Echevarria admitted to troopers that he was in possession of a handgun that was stored in an unlocked compartment behind the driver’s seat. Troopers checked the compartment and found a loaded .40 caliber handgun.
Police conducted further investigations and realized that Echevarria had a prior felony. In Connecticut, it is illegal for those with felonies to have guns.
Courant reported that Echevarria was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver and weapons in a vehicle. In addition, he was charged with failing to have a permit to sell or carry a pistol, and also with violating Connecticut’s ammunition cap.
His bond was set at $25,000. Unable to make the bond, he was ordered to appear before a judge in Superior Court in Stamford on Thursday.
