A trucker in Houston, Texas, was recently fined $200k for where he parks his big rig…in his own driveway.
Darrel Gashette extended the width and length of his driveway and has been parking his truck there since 1999, however when new neighbors moved in about a year ago, they had a big problem with it.
After several months of complaints and back and forth fighting, the city slapped the trucker with a hefty $200,000 fine. $1000 for every day since the original complaint was filed.
This was shocking to Gashette, considering that he is a OTR driver and is not even home for 200 days in a year.
The court eventually agreed to drop the fine but restricted Gashette from parking in his driveway. Instead, they say he must park in the street which he plans to do.
KHOU News in Houston spoke with several other neighbors who said that his truck was never an issue for them. “It’s really not a problem at all. Never has been for me and I live directly across the street.”
Gashette is still required to pay over $8,000 in court fines and attorneys costs, which he believes is unjust. He is considering filing an appeal.
