In Florence, Alabama, a truck driver miraculously escaped serious injury.
According to Times Daily, on Wednesday afternoon, the big rig was loaded with grain when the brakes failed, and the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Officials on the scene reported that the semi crossed Canal Street, barreled through the end of Poplar Street before smashing into a fence near E.A. Nelson Equipment Co. right by the canal.
The driver then jumped from the cab of his moving truck as it crashed through the fence and rolled on its side.
Florence Fire Battalion Chief Ben Cochran stated:
“The truck went up a small hill, flipped over on its side and started sliding.”
He furthered that the semi came to a stop right before it fell into the water at the canal.
“I don’t know how it didn’t end up in the canal.”
According to Cochran, the semi was on its way to the grain elevator at the Port of Florence.
Grain spilled out from the overturned trailer.
Authorities reported that the driver said that his brakes stopped working as he started to drive down Poplar Street’s incline.
The driver was taken to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital for examination.
The crash remains under investigation.
