On the morning of June 8th, the owner of a semi truck saw a man stealing his truck from a parking lot where he had normally parked it over the past four years.
The driver’s quick thinking saved him hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The driver, Blake Nelson, was driving cross country with expensive shingles, worth about $125,000.
According to KOCO, around 4:30 a.m., his truck and load were stolen near Southwest 29th and Meridian in Oklahoma City. As Nelson returned to pick up his truck, he saw a man hot-wire his vehicle and drive away with it.
Instinctively, Nelson got in his car and proceeded to chase after the thief.
Nelson commented:
“My first instinct was, I got to get to Springfield. This is my livelihood, and someone who’s going to jeopardize my livelihood really ticks me off.”
The trucker called the police and they continued the pursuit for several miles. Eventually, the thief gave up and abandoned the big rig and ran into the woods nearby.
Nelson reclaimed his truck which sustained minor damage.
Police officers set up a perimeter but were unsuccessful in locating the criminal.
