A surveillance video showing a semi truck being struck by a train was recently released by police in Richmond, California.

The incident happened back on May 9th, however the footage was just made public in order to raise awareness of the dangers of trying to beat a train across the tracks.

According to local KRON-4, the driver of the truck attempted to cross the tracks as the crossing’s safety gates were closing, but was not able to make it across in time.

The train struck the truck’s trailer at roughly 44 miles per hour, tearing it apart. Thankfully, the cab of the truck was not struck by the train. The driver, along with his two dogs, were able to safely leave the vehicle.

The clip from KRON-4 below shows the recently released surveillance footage, as well as an interview with the driver.
