A New Jersey man was arrested on Wednesday after Port Authority Police discovered he owed more than $70,000 in unpaid tolls.

According to the NY Daily News, a 1982 Kenworth dump truck was pulled over on the New Jersey-side of the George Washington bridge on Wednesday, around 9:10 a.m., after the toll both rejected payment from the truck’s EZ-Pass transponder.

Port Authority Police Officer Lionel Gonzalez then discovered that the E-Z Pass in the truck had been suspended due to 300 open toll violations, amounting to nearly $36,000 in unpaid tolls.

The 76-year-old truck driver, who was not the owner of the truck, received a citation for not paying the toll.

Police then tracked down the owner of the truck, 68-year-old Heriberto Quiroz, and discovered that he had 3 more E-Z Pass accounts, with additional unpaid tolls of $34,000. In total, Quiroz had a total unpaid balance of approximately $70,000 dollars.

Quiroz, who owns U.S. National carting company, was arrested and charged with theft of service.

The ’82 Kenworth was also impounded due to the unpaid balance.
