It was originally reported by MoDot that the truck was hauling 40,000 bees. But when a bee expert was called to the scene, he estimated the numbers to be in the millions. Matt Winstead of Midwest Bee Removal explained that the truck was carrying over 200 hives, each of which contained around 40,000 bees.

Emergency crews and Kansas City Police arrived at the scene to help control the swarm. KansasCity.com reported that some of the bees escaped from the semi truck.

MoDot Tweeted the following advisory.

Traffic wasn’t affected by the crash, but DOT warned drivers to be cautious of bee swarms.

No one was injured, and the incident remains under investigation.
