A tractor trailer hauling apples fell off a highway and plunged into the Columbia River near East Wenatchee, Washington on Thursday.
The Washington State Patrol reported that the truck lost control on US 2 and slid more than 100 feet down an embankment before hitting the water.
The diver of the truck, 40-year-old Kyle R. Stanton, escaped uninjured.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, however several media outlets have reported that slush on the shoulder of the road may have caused the truck to lose traction.
Coincidentally, it’s the second time this week that a truck hauling apples fell into the Columbia river.
Another truck hauling apples fell in on Monday after sliding off Highway 243. Police say the driver in that incident was traveling too fast for conditions. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
