A truck driver is outraged after having his vehicle towed from a store parking lot, while he was shopping inside.
Daryl Winslow was parked at the Meijer parking lot in Huber Heights, Ohio on Wednesday morning. He spent more than an hour in the store and when he returned to the parking lot, his truck was gone.
His first thought was “somebody stole my truck,” he said.
A store manager then informed him that his vehicle was towed, and pointed to a sign in the parking lot stating that “unauthorized vehicles” are prohibited.
“We have numerous signs posted stating that unauthorized vehicles will be towed,” a Meijer representatitve told WHIO.
“There were 19 trucks in our lot this morning, which made it difficult for us to receive deliveries, so our store leadership had to approach all of the unauthorized vehicles and ask them to move. Remaining trucks without drivers were towed per our unauthorized vehicles policy,” he added.
Winslow asked the store to reimburse him for the cab ride home and the towing cost, totaling $321.75. He says his damages are even greater, due to not being able to work while his truck was impounded.
He also asked the store to clarify their unauthorized vehicle policy. He believes that any shopper should have the right to park in the lot — regardless of the type of vehicle.
The store has promised to investigate the incident, but has not indicated if they would reimburse the driver.
