In Birch Run Township, Michigan, one semi truck driver’s day has gone from bad to worse.
Truck driver Ike Word from Detriot drives for Transport Systems LLC based out of Dearborn.
On Thursday afternoon, Word was headed north on Dixie Highway on his way to Ubly to get his load, when his GPS sudden informed him that he was headed in the wrong direction.
In his best efforts, the driver decided to make a U-turn instead of attempting to turn on a narrow road, strewn with potholes.
However, while maneuvering the U-turn, his truck became lodged in the mud along the shoulder.
This left his trailer blocking all of the lanes of the Dixie Highway. He was stopped just north of Willard Road, along the border between Saginaw and Genesee counties.
According to Word, a good Samaritan in a pickup truck saw him in trouble and offered to tow him out of the mud.
Mlive reported that when he attempted the tow, the rope broke. Disheartened, Word untied the rope from his truck and handed his keys to the pickup driver to hold so that he could better maneuver his situation.
To make matters worse, the good Samaritan left, accidentally driving off with Words keys, leaving him stranded on the roadside.
Saginaw County sheriff’s officers arrived at the scene in order to divert traffic since his truck was still blocking the highway’s lanes.
Officers called Mike’s Wrecker and the truck was moved to the side to allow the flow of traffic.
Word hoped the man in the pickup would return with his keys:
“That guy was trying to do a good thing but he really messed me up.”
The trucker called a locksmith to unlock his truck so that he could finally complete his journey.
