41-year-old old truck driver Rolando Rodriguez Bautistia was arrested last week, when officers at a customs checkpoint in McAllen, Texas discovered 25 pounds of methamphetamine in his tractor trailer.
According to Breitbart.com, U.S. Customs agents discovered the drugs after his rig was selected for an x-ray inspection.
New documents reveal that Rodriguez, who drives for Mexican trucking company Transportes Quintero, claims he was held at gunpoint and forced to transport the drugs.
The U.S. District Court criminal complaint states that Rodriguez told officers that four gunman entered his truck after he picked up his trailer. The gunmen then replaced two of the truck’s batteries with drug packages and ordered him to drive into the U.S., telling him “not to inform anyone of the batteries or they would harm him and his family”.
The court document also says that Rodriguez told officers that he’s been crossing into the U.S. for many years and has asked border patrol agents in the past to inspect his load if he was suspicious of its contents. He says he did not tell agents about the drug load he was carrying at the time of his arrest because he feared for his life.
