After the accident, he got out of his rig and checked on the pickup that hit him from behind. As he approached it, the pickup caught fire. Inside he found a woman behind the wheel, pinned to hear seat and unable to escape.

After rushing to her aid, he struggled for several minutes to get her free but was finally able to help her and her passenger get loose while battling flames and twisted steel.

Scott told the Longview News-Journal:

“The traffic had stopped, and I was already stopped in the left lane, and the lady hit me hard,” Scott reported to the News-Journal, Longview. “She never hit the brake, and then her truck almost instantly caught fire.”

By the time firefighters arrived, the woman was free but her car was still ablaze. She now has an unlikely hero in a situation that could have been fatal, the man she hit from behind.
