Congratulations to Faribanks driver, John Schank for 37 safe years on the road. Lyden Transport, his employer, has recognized his feat and decided some celebration was in order.

For almost 40 years Schank has been driving for Lynden on the “haul road” or Dalton Highway, a 414-mile route in Alaska and one of the most dangerous routes in North America.  He made this trip 4,921 times, a larger distance than any driver who drove that road.

To celebrate nearly 5 million safe miles, he was named Alaska’s Driver of the year and a reception took place in the Lynden Service Center for his honor. He was also visited by Governor Parnell for a special commendation.

Despite the dangers and unpredictable nature of Dalton Highway, Schank has managed to avoid trouble and get to his destination on time each time without complaining. He’s an example of a true American Trucker.
