A truck driver is alive today thanks to a father and son that noticed his burning truck and pulled him out to safety.

According to reports, a speeding van crashed into a USPS semi truck in Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday, engulfing the rig in flames. The driver of the van, who died in the crash, was suspected to be intoxicated.

The semi truck caught fire upon impact, trapping the driver inside the cab of the rig.

Two men driving home from a fishing trip spotted the burning rig on Columbia Blvd and leaped into action after hearing cries for help. Jose Hernandez-Hernandez told reporters:

“We just had to jump up and pull him out of there. We just dragged him away from the semi-truck and he was still on fire, so we rolled him around on the ground to put the flames out.”

Truck driver Mike R. Harp is listed in critical condition at the Legacy Emanuel burn unit.
