A truck driver is lucky to be alive after driving off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Virginia and plunging into the water below.
The incident occurred at the 14-mile post on the southbound lanes, around 3:15 p.m on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a preliminary investigation, the driver lost control while trying to go around a slower vehicle and broke through the guardrail, plunging into the Chesapeake Bay.
Rescue crews found the driver floating in the water when they arrived. He suffered arm, leg, and head injuries, but is expected to live.
All but one lane has been reopened. The left lane is closed in order for the guard rail to be repaired.
The truck was hauling a load of soybeans.
