rottingchickenHave you ever smelt rotting raw chicken that’s been sitting in an unrefrigerated area? It’s a pretty rancid smell. Can you imagine what 35,000 pounds of that must smell like? Just ask the people who discovered a truck full of rotting chicken near the Flying J Truck stop west of Missoula on Sept. 23, 2014.

A disgruntled Idaho truck driver supposedly abandoned the frozen chickens their after his company refused to pay him a higher wage. The trucker worked for Dixie River Freight in Nampa and the chicken he left behind valued at $80,000. There’s no idea how long the truck has been abandoned.

Officials with the county health department were at the truck stop on the 24th to decipher the best way to get rid of the waste as temperatures rise near 90 degrees. Shannon Therriault, environmental health supervisor with Missoula County Health Department states, “Obviously, the chicken isn’t going to get used at this point, but the question is what needs to happen to dispose of it safely.”

The man’s identity has not been released.
