A truck driver was killed in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday afternoon, in what police believe is a case of murderous road rage.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on the I-10 eastbound lanes, near Chaffee Road.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the two semi trucks bumped when the victim attempted to move into the left lane to avoid construction in the right lane. Witnesses say the suspect, who was traveling in the left lane, then fired a shot at the victim’s cab.

The victim was struck by the gunfire, and veered off the road, crashing into the woods off Interstate 10.

The shooter fled the scene.

Police have described the shooter as a black male with a beard. He was driving an early to mid 2000s orange Century Freightliner and pulling a 53-foot white trailer. There may be damage on the passenger side of the cab.

The Florida Highway Patrol has alerted weigh stations in the area and are searching for the shooter along Interstate 10 and Interstate 95. The victim’s identity will be released after his family is notified.
