A truck driver was killed after breaking through a guard rail and driving off an overpass ramp in Holland, Michigan.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, on the northbound Washington Avenue exit ramp of US-31.

Investigators say the truck passed a stop sign then crossed two lanes of traffic before crashing through the guardrail and ending up in a ditch off the overpass ramp.

Police indicated that speed was a factor in the crash. They believe the truck was doing at least double the ramp’s speed limit of 25 miles per hour.

The truck driver’s name has not been released. He is said to be a 45-50 year old man from Illinois. His trailer was empty at the time of the crash.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

An investigation is still underway. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Sgt. Kender of the Holland Department of Public Safety at (616) 355-1100.
