A semi truck got stuck under a low overpass near the I-94 in Detroit on Tuesday after attempting to drive under a low overpass, but it was his next move that surprised witnesses.
After getting stuck under the 12’7″ clearance bridge and ripping the roof of his trailer off, the driver managed to get loose. He placed the roof of his trailer inside his trailer, and managed to free himself.
However, instead of backing up and exiting in the direction he came from, he decided to drive under a second overpass, completely destroying his trailer in the process.
According to Click On Detroit, the driver was an owner operator from El Paso, Texas. He did not report the incident, but onlookers that witnessed it reported it to MDOT. The driver left the scene before officers arrived.
The overpasses were holding up railroad tracks, which were inspected by the rail company. They reported no structural damage due to the incident. According to MDOT’s Rob Morosi, these type of incidents occur on a regular basis but go largely unreported.
