A truck driver hauling triple trailers died on Wednesday morning after rear ending another truck on the Ohio Turnpike in Fulton County.
According to The Toledo Blade, a semi truck was pulled over in the right lane with its lights off, due to mechanical failure, around mile marker 37. That’s when the truck hauling three trailers, driven by 47-year-old Russell Florida, crashed into the back of the stalled semi, instantly killing him.
The driver of the semi that was struck was not inside his truck. Troopers say he exited his vehicle in order to get help.
After striking the back of the trailer, the truck driven by Mr. Florida ended up in a ditch on the side of the road. He was wearing a seat belt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The westbound lanes were reopened several hours later.
