A truck driver was injured after being involved in a truck-train collision in Sheridan, New York.

It happened on Saturday evening, around 5:30 p.m., at the intersection of Werle Road and Progressive Drive.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff Department, 30-year-old truck driver Jason M. Siepierski made his way onto Werle Road, which is marked as a non-truck route, and got stuck on the shoulder of the road, directly over the train tracks.

Siepierski was unable to get the truck off the tracks as the train approached. The truck’s trailer was split in half after being struck by the Norfolk Southern train.

A small truck fire broke out after the impact but it was quickly put out by Sheridan and East Dunkirk fire departments.

Police reported that Sierperski was able to make his way out of the truck just before impact. He was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk for minor injuries.

Sierperski was also cited for disobeying a traffic control device.

No one on the train was injured.
