Police have released the identity of a truck driver who was found dead near a truck stop on Sunday.

At 10:30 a.m., his body was spotted by a resident in the grassy area on the south side of the Flying J Truck Plaza in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Police reported to the scene and found the man unresponsive.

Lt. Brett Johnson explained,

“Citizen who was walking their dog near the Flying J truck stop came across a person he believed was deceased or in some kind of trouble. So, he called the police department. We responded out there and that’s where the investigation started.”

Police identified him as 44-year-old truck driver Shane Keith Fried of Ontario, Canada. According to Grand Forks Herald, the truck driver appeared to be passing through the area on business.

Johnson reported that the truck driver’s body showed signs of severe trauma, but that they did not expect foul play. Officials believe it may have been a suicide. The type of weapon that was found at the scene has not yet been released.

While it is unknown exactly how long his body had been there, officers speculate that it was probably within hours of finding the man.

Police reported that the incident poses no threat to the public. The results of his autopsy will be available on Tuesday.

This is a developing story. The incident remains under investigation.
