A veteran truck driver has been fired for what he believes is religious discrimination.
Ramiro Olivarez told KRGV-5 that he wrote in “Jesus” as his co-driver in his logbooks because of his religious beliefs, but his company states that it constitutes falsifying driver log books.
They claim to have asked him to stop “submitting incomplete documentation and falsifying legal documents.” When asked about his logbook practices, Olivarez told reporters: “The graph on there is strictly Ramiro Olivarez. And Jesus is my co-driver, and that’s my belief. That he’s with me”
According to Federal law, falsifying log books makes the driver and company liable to prosecution.
Olivarez, however, says that no one at the company told him to stop writing Jesus as his co-driver, or he would have just written a cross there instead. He’s now urging other truck driver to take a stand with him and stand up for their beliefs: “I strongly encourage you to put Jesus as your co-driver. Let’s make a stand,”
