A major accident happened on Route 78, Dec. 06, in union involving a tanker, an Audi, and tractor-trailer hauling mulch.
The Audi, driven by 24-year-old James Pinaire, was leaving the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey ramp into Route 78 where he got in the way of the tanker, driven by 35-year-old Balwinder Singh, and resulted in the two colliding. Both vehicles crashed into the tractor trailer, driven by 53-year-old Mario Quiroz, shortly after.
Pinaire was pronounced dead at the scene. The two big vehicles continued their crash down the left express lane before finally hitting a barricade, igniting the 9,000 gallons of fuel in the tanker.
A pedestrian driving by stopped to record a video of the incident. In the video, you can Singh escaping the hellish blaze by climbing through his windshield.
“I saw it in the distance and I didn’t think anything of it, but when I got closer it was surreal, I started taking video and you can hear two or three explosions and then I saw the man crawl out of the windshield of the truck. After that I stopped recording.” said 28-year-old Joe DeGioia.
Singh and Quiroz were treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital.
