A truck driver was killed after being run over by his own rig on a Florida highway on Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. on U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach.

According to News-13, the driver exited his semi truck while it was still in motion on the northbound lanes of U.S. 1, near Lowndes Avenue.

After leaving the vehicle, the driver fell to the ground and was crushed by his own truck. The 46-year-old truck driver from Miami Garden, Florida, died at the scene of the accident.

The driverless semi then crossed the median, striking a Chevy sedan head-on. Two people inside the sedan were taken to Halifax Medical Center in critical condition.

Witnesses say the truck driver was driving erratically before the accident occurred. An investigation is underway.
