A fiery collision took place on the Jersey Turnpike big enough to cut off a portion of the route for ten hours, Tuesday around 9 p.m.

According to State Trooper Alina Spies, one truck driven by 37-year-old Timothy Bowen of Clayton, rear-ended another truck, causing Bowen’s truck to jackknife and combust.

The fire spread to two other trucks, causing them to ignite as well. The crash charred and damaged 150 ft of the turnpike. Cranbury Township shut down the lanes until repairs were made.

Bowen died at the scene, but the other two drivers, 53-year-old Renaud Plante of Quebec and 45-year-old Juan Cortez-Robollo of Vineland survived the impact and were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
