A truck driver was cited after toppling off an overpass in Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday.
According to police reports, 40-year-old driver Ricky Clayton had just picked up his girlfriend from a nearby Greyhound bus terminal and was driving in unfamiliar territory on Beaucatcher Road when he veered left and rolled down an embankment over Tunnel Rd.
Clayton’s rig weighed 77,000 pounds at the time of the accident and was loaded with meat. He was transported to Mission Hospital with a concussion and laceration to his left arm. His girlfriend suffered minor injuries on her torso and was also taken to the hospital.
Clayton was charged with “driving left of center.” Police said they will also examine the truck and the driver’s logs in search of additional violations.
