A routine safety inspection turned into a drug bust when an Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Trooper smelled something unusual coming from a truck.

At 6:34 p.m. on Thursday, a trooper stopped a semi truck for an inspection on eastbound Interstate 70 near the 36-mile marker in Putnam County, Indiana. Behind the wheel was 52-year-old Richard Sherman who was hauling television parts from California to Pennsylvania.

Suspicions arose when a pungent smell of mustard wafted from inside the cab. According to Tribune Star, other indicators of criminal activity were also noticed by the trooper.

After searching the cab, the trooper uncovered around 48 pounds of marijuana- packaged and covered in yellow mustard. In total, the street value was estimated at $200,000.

Sherman was arrested on felony charges of dealing marijuana over 10 pounds and possession of marijuana over 10 pounds with prior offense.
