Connecticut law enforcement officials have arrested a truck driver for fleeing the scene after hitting another semi truck and injuring a fellow driver at a truck stop in Southington.
Mohamood Ahmed, 26, of Grand Forks, North Dakota was arrested and charged with evading responsibility resulting in the injury of another driver (hit and run).
In the early hours of Dec. 8, Ahmed struck a semi truck while backing his own tractor trailer into a parking space at the TA truck stop located on 1875 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike. Ahmed continued to attempt to fit his truck into the parking space when the driver of the other vehicle stepped outside to inspect the damage.
When the other driver stepped onto the foot step, Ahmed’s truck hit the partially open door and pinned the other driver’s leg. Ahmed reportedly knew he injured the driver but fled the scene, according to The Southington Observer.
At around 2:47 a.m., Ahmed called local police and stated he was in Berlin and wanted to report the incident. He claimed he left the scene because he feared for his safety.
The injured driver was taken to a local hospital for a possible broken leg.
Ahmed is being held on a $2,500 bond and is set to appear at Bristol Superior Court.
