A Florida Trucker was arrested after he allegedly caused a chain reaction leading to a multi-vehicle crash.
The collision occurred on Thursday on I-65 near Franklin, Indiana just before 5 p.m. near the 92-mlie marker.
Police reported that 43-year-old Jose Montalvo was driving a red 2000 Freightliner when he approached stopped traffic in the right lane of a construction zone.
Instead of stopping, he rear-ended a semi.
This caused the crash between six other semis and a van.
It was then that Montalvo apparently fled on foot from the scene of the wreckage.
The Indy Channel noted that shortly after he was arrested by Johnson County Sheriff’s officers.
One of the truck drivers involved in the crash was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Three semis were towed from the scene.
Hazmat was called to clean the area of leaking fuel and transmission fluids. The northbound lanes of I-65 near Franklin were shut down for about 3 hours.
He was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, abandoning the scene of a crash, and driving without insurance.
In addition, the truck driver was cited for multiple Federal Motor Carrier infractions. His bond set at $2000.
