A man and his dog were killed on the eastbound I-84, Newtown, Ct., after an accident involving by two tractor-trailers early Friday morning.
Warren Jefferson, a 49-year-old truck driver, was carrying a load for Penske down the interstate when he collided with a trailer sitting in traffic, just before exit 11.
Jefferson, along with his dog, was killed in the crash while the other driver, 65-year-old John Krupskas of Dickson City, Pa., was taken to the Danbury hospital with minor injuries.
Both of the vehicles lost their loads in the crash. One was carrying paper products while the other had foam insulation which was spread across all eastbound lanes.
State Troopers and Sandy Hook Firefighters alike responded to the 4 a.m. accident and took control of traffic.
Traffic was directed to route 34 but was delayed due to overnight construction of the Rochambeau Bridge. Route 25, which cuts right through the center of Newtown was also used but experienced heavy traffic flow until the lanes were reopened around 10 a.m.
