The Illinois State Police recently conducted a 24-hour semi truck inspection spree on Interstate 294.
The special operation was dubbed “Opereation Sauter,” in honor of Trooper James Sauter, who was killed in 2013 when his police vehicle was struck by a semi truck on I-294.
The operation took place on March 28th, 2016, roughly 2 years after Sauter’s death. Troopers called the impromptu inspection spree a “success,” conducting 1657 inspections within 24 hours.
According to KTRS.com:
On March 28th, ISP Troopers , throughout the state, aggressively patrolled Illinois roadways for 24 consecutive hours in remembrance of their fallen comrade. Authorities report that during ‘Operation Sauter,’ ISP Troopers conducted 1,657 Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections, placing 114 dangerous Commercial Motor Vehicles out of service.
In addition, 1037 drivers also received written warnings.
