Throughout the month of December, Delaware State Police will be on the lookout for truck drivers attempting to skip on tolls by taking local detours.

Any vehicle weighing more than 9 tons is now prohibited by law to travel in between Elkton Road and South College Avenue.

An exception has been made for local deliveries, deliveries being made to or from the city and surrounding 5 miles.

The state claims they are losing revenue due to long haul truckers passing through the state, that are avoiding the toll by getting off the I-95 onto Christina Parkway and back on through Elkton Road.

Officers on patrol will be on the lookout for any truck driver attempting to maneuver around the tolls.

They will also be checking equipment violations as well as credentials and log books.
