Three former employees of the Mississippi Department of Transportation are accused of using state-funded Fuelman fuel cards to line their own pockets.
According to WTJV.com, the three men, 28-year-old Clyde Poole, 30-year-old Connie Shegog, and 36-year-old Torrie Willey, were arrested on embezzlement charges after an internal investigation.
The three men are accused of using the fuel cards to purchase fuel for private semi truck drivers, then collecting cash directly from the drivers.
Melinda McGrath, an executive director at MDOT commented on the case. “MDOT discovered violations involving use of state funds through internal controls and immediately began an investigation that included a report of the incident to the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor,” she said.
Each suspect was charged with one count of embezzlement, as well as being issued a demand for repayment. In total, the men “cashed out” over $14,000 in the scheme.
All three men resigned from MDOT in the last three months, as the investigation was taking place.
