In Billings, Montana, a driver who rear-ended a semi had a death-defying escape.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 8:30 a.m. on I-90, east of Columbus.

A trooper reported that a semi truck had suffered a mechanical issue and was pulled over on the side of the highway.

Suddenly, a male driver of a pick-up truck rear-ended the semi at 84 m.p.h.

As a result, the pickup truck was reduced to a “ball of metal,” according to a state trooper.

KRTV reported that the pickup driver only suffered minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the truck driver was not carrying any other passengers. The semi truck driver was not injured.

Officials do not believe that alcohol was involved in the crash.

It is not yet known whether the driver was cited for the incident.
