Indianapolis-based transportation company Harbor Bridge Intermodal was temporarily grounded when a thief broke onto the property and removed truck batteries from the entire 22-vehicle fleet.
When employees arrived at work on Monday, they discovered that none of the vehicles would start. They soon realized that the batteries were gone in every truck.
According to WISH-TV, after checking surveillance cameras, it was discovered that an unidentified man pulled onto the lot in a Cadillac sedan and drove up to each truck individually, calmly pulling out the batteries.
Harbor Bridge employee Brandi Meives viewed the video and said the thief operated in a very casual manner. “He is very comfortable, he takes his time to unhook everything, he cuts the wires,” she said.
The owner of the company said the incident caused a huge financial strain on his business. He says he now stays at the company at night in order to prevent it from happening again.
Several local trucking companies have also fallen victim to similar battery thefts in the past. Police believe the suspect may have sold the batteries to a local scrap yard.
