After the conclusion of the Roadcheck 2016, Texas DPS announced that over one-fifth of the vehicles inspected were taken off the road.
Texas DPS conducted its nationally-held annual inspection of commercial vehicles between June 7-9. During this time, 7,795 commercial motor vehicles were inspected.
According to Everything Lubbock, the 1,751 vehicles were placed out of service for a variety of safety reasons, such as defective brakes, and lights.
These vehicles will remain out of service until proper repairs are made.
In addition, 224 drivers were also put out of service for noncompliance with federal and state laws. These violations included improper logging of time, improper driver license type and driving over the maximum allowable hours.
Most drivers do thorough checks of their vehicles before inspection time–but not everyone.
DPS spokesperson Robbie Barrera shared her knowledge.
She commented on the situation:
“For the most part commercial motor drivers out there are being safe. You do have some that aren’t.”
Overall, most truckers are staying in compliance.
Yet, in total, Texas DPS issued over 20,446 warnings and 1,972 citations.
