A 17-year-old driver was killed on Sunday, when she drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a loaded tanker truck head-on.

The incident occurred around 12:52 p.m. on Highway 67, just south of Cleburne, Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that 17-year-old Jean Marie Kramer was driving her SUV in the eastbound lanes, but crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with the tanker truck. According to CBS-DFW, she was killed instantly.

After being struck by Kramer’s SUV, the tanker truck lost control and hit a Ford F-150 in the eastbound lanes. The collision caused the tanker truck to catch fire, however the driver was able to escape with only minor injuries. The occupants in the Ford pickup truck were not injured.

As of 6:30 pm, both directions of Highway 67 were still closed.

An investigation is currently underway in order to determine why Kramer drifted into the westbound lanes.
