It happened on Tuesday on the entrance ramp from SR-874 to southbound Florida Turnpike between 120 Street and 152 Street. The southbound lanes have been down and northbound traffic has been affected.
Motorists came to a halt behind the fire.
Firefighters responded to the scene and have since extinguished the inferno. The driver escaped the tanker, but his condition is unknown. Lt. Felipe Lay of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue stated,
“The location where the incident happened is a big concern. What our units are currently doing are providing safety for any traffic coming in any direction.”
WSVN reported that cleanup is expected to take several hours. Officials expect major traffic delays.
Update: The highway has since reopened.
