Indiana Police are looking for a motorist who shot a truck driver in the leg in northwest Indiana on Wednesday.
The incident happened on the westbound lanes of Interstate 94, near the Burns Harbor exit, around 6:40 p.m.
According to police reports, the truck driver moved from the right lane to the center lane in order to pass a slower-moving semi truck. After moving into the center lane, a gray SUV with an Indiana license plate approached the truck at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass it on the right, but was unable to make the pass. An “altercation” then broke out between the trucker in the center lane and the SUV driver.
When the SUV finally passed, the truck driver “heard a gunshot and felt something strike his leg,” according to local news WLFI.com. Police confirmed that the driver had been shot in the leg and found bullet holes in the side of his rig.
The SUV then fled the scene and continued west on Interstate 94. The identity and condition of the truck driver has not been released.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or have information about the suspect, to call Trooper Bohling at 219-696-6242.
