On Wednesday in Sidney, Nebraska, surprise inspections placed nearly a third of commercial vehicles inspected out of service. The Nebraska State Patrol targeted trucks which do not normally pass through weigh stations or leave city bounds on their typical routes.
Morning inspections took place at 23rd Avenue & Illinois Street, while afternoon inspections were conducted along Interstate 80.
Throughout the day, Officials of the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective team inspected 34 trucks at and placed 10 out them of service for safety problems.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, $1,850 worth of fines were issued due to the 101 violations found across the 34 vehicles. One driver was also taken off the road for not having a valid CDL.
Wednesday’s inspection was the 11th surprise inspection in the state this year.
Officers say the surprise inspections are intended to insure that truckers who do not regularly leave state lines still abide by safety regulations.
