A police officer was dragged for more than a half-mile after his cruiser got stuck on a stolen tow truck he was pursuing.

The incident began in East Rutherford, New Jersey, when police officers spotted a stolen flatbed tow truck around 8:15 a.m. on Monday morning. The driver of the stolen vehicle took off when officers attempted to stop him.

The suspect took police on a 43-minute chase on northbound Route 17.

According to Fox-5, an East Ruthford police cruiser got caught on the flatbed trailer during the chase, near the Suffern border.

The driver continued to pull the helpless officer for another half-mile before coming to a stop in Hillburn, New York.

Two troopers were hit during the chase and were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the stolen truck was arrested in Hillburn. He was identified as 50-year-old Paul T. Gudanowski. He was charged with criminal possession of a stolen property, criminal mischief, assault, unlawful fleeing, driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.

Records show Gudanowski has two previous DUI charges. He is being held in the Orange County Jail and is due in court on Friday.
