An individual in a fully loaded 18-wheeler has taken police on a wild chase down Interstate 30 in Hunt County, Texas, this afternoon.
The truck, which was reported stolen, refused to stop for police, even after losing two tires. Some reports indicate that the driver of the truck is a trained driver.
Update:
More than 40 police vehicles surrounded the rig and were able to bring it to a stop on Texas State Spur 302 and Interstate 30/Highway 67.
Police are currently surrounding the rig with their guns drawn. The driver, however, has not surrendered and is believed to be inside the sleeper of the truck. There is also a dog in the cab of the vehicle.
Eastbound I-30 is currently blocked off for several miles.
Update 2:
Police have fired tear gas into the cab of the truck. The driver was pulled out the rig and placed on the ground. He has been taken into custody.
The dog was not harmed.
Update 3:
The driver of the truck was identified as 60-year-old David Arnold. He was the designated driver of the truck.
It was reported stolen by his company after he failed to show up at a delivery in Maryland.
“The truck’s owners are out of California, and they were monitoring the vehicle with electronic tracking because it has been overdue for 30 hours. The driver hadn’t reported in,” said Sgt. Lonny Haschel of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest.
The highway has since reopened.
