But what does this mean for commercial drivers? Not much.
The department of transportation had this to say in a press release, to answer the question of legal marijuana use among commercial drivers:
“We want to make it perfectly clear that the state initiatives will have no bearing on the Department of Transportation’s regulated drug testing program.
The Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40 – does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason,”
Even with the legalization of pot, marijuana is still classified as a schedule I drug. Those who use it for medicinal purposes will not be exempt from these restrictions either, says the DOT.
