Two sisters were killed on Thursday when they collided with a tractor trailer. It happened around 9 a.m. in Dearborn Heights, Michigan at the intersection of Beech Daly and Van Born.

According to Fox 2 News, the women were driving a Ford Focus northbound of Beech Daly when they ran a red light. The car was t-boned by a tractor trailer traveling westbound on Van Born. Police stated that the tractor trailer had the right of way.

The Ford Focus became wedged under the semi, and was dragged for hundreds of feet until the truck was able to stop.

According to Press & Guide, the driver of the Ford was on her cell phone at the time of the crash. Dearborn Heights Police Chief Lee Gavin reported, “The young lady was on the phone, maybe driving erratically, and that maybe had a factor into this accident.”

The sisters who died at the scene were identified at 23-year-old Heidi Fox and 19-year-old Samantha Fox. The truck driver was not reported to be injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
